We are in serious trouble.
The world is a mess, and it is getting worse with time. Everyone is affected by increased unemployment, higher rates of homelessness, and heightened costs. Whether directly or indirectly.
A recession is not on the horizon… It has already begun. The Great Depression was nothing compared to what lies ahead.
The Difference Between A Recession And A Depression
While similar, the main difference between a recession and a depression is the reach and time.
Essentially, the effects of a depression will be more severe than a recession. They will also last longer and spread further.
Still, no matter which term you choose, life will quickly become challenging.
What Would The Great Depression Look Like Today?
Life in 1929 was very different than the world we live in today. Things were more straightforward. Life was less complicated. Sadly, even in the simplicity of 1929, economic catastrophe was inevitable, and perhaps it is today as well.

Although we have learned much from past events, knowledge is not a preventative measure – history tends to repeat itself.
So what would it look like if the world saw a Great Depression today?
If The Great Depression were to occur today, it would look much different than it did in 1929. First, citizens today are far more reliant on the system than they were in the times leading up to The Great Depression.
In fact, social welfare and many government taxes were implemented after the depression and were not an aspect of everyday life before it.
One big thing to consider is the way we live day to day. When you’re hungry, you go to the grocery store and buy food.
For the most part, people today have congregated in cities, and those in rural areas often rely on the city folk to survive and vice versa.
Most of us do not have the land to grow our food; even if we did, many would not know how. Our survival skills today are lacking at best, and we have grown accustomed to a comfortable way of life.

The truth is, many of us believe that it can’t or won’t happen again. We cite our knowledge and understanding of the economy as support.
However, knowledge of wrongdoing does not always stop the misconduct, as we have seen many times. I don’t know about you, but I am uncomfortable putting my faith in the system or my life in its hands.
A greater depression can happen, regardless of our knowledge and despite our experience.
Imagine for a moment that there were no more grocery stores. Pretend the water to your home stopped flowing and the electricity shut off. Take a second to visualize life without all the luxuries you are used to having.
Would you survive?
Being prepared means understanding that anything is possible and having the essentials to face the problem when it appears, whatever it may be.
How To Prepare For The Greater Depression
Preparing for another depression will require resilience, knowledge, and creativity. There are things you can do today to ensure your well-being tomorrow.
Find A Secure Income Source
Millions of people lost their jobs during The Great Depression, and unemployment was at an all-time high.
Unfortunately, we saw similar effects during the pandemic.
If you want security for the future, find a reliable source of income today.
Limit Your Spending
Learning to manage your money is essential. Much of the suffering in the greater depression will happen because people fail to properly budget their funds.
Limiting your spending to the bare essentials will be a benefit when a crisis occurs. You could lose your job without warning, and severance is not always an option. Prevent chaos by preparing for the worst.
Live Within Your Means
We all want nice things, but is it worth the stress and strain? Living beyond our means has become such commonplace today that entire industries thrive off it.
Keeping up is impossible if you struggle to keep a roof over your head.
While having that fancy car or house is lovely, learning to live within your means is essential if you want to be prepared.
Keep An Eye On Debt
As with spending, you must be aware of your debt. When you owe money to credit cards, car loans, or mortgages, much of your payment goes towards excessive interest rates.
Keep an eye on your debt and keep it under control.
Build Your Savings
Having savings to fall back on is ideal. In fact, even a dollar a day can make a big difference.

Savings could mean the difference between having a place to rest your head and sleeping on the streets. Grab yourself a piggy bank and start putting away money for the future.
Prepare For Inflation
Understanding the financial climate is only half the battle. You need to be prepared. You can prepare for inevitable inflation, which has already begun, by:
- Diversifying investments
- Building an emergency fund
- Creating a tight budget
Put Away Some Cash
Using the piggy bank mentioned above, store cash to have on hand. Banks may encounter issues during a global crisis, and it is not unheard of for them to withhold funds.
Also, how do you access an ATM if there is no power? How do you get cash if you can’t access your bank account?
Arm Yourself With Knowledge
Knowledge is one of the best tools you can have in a crisis. Be sure you are up-to-date on global news and knowledgeable on survival tactics.

I suggest having basic first-aid knowledge and an understanding of hunting or fishing. When push comes to shove, these skills save lives.
Purchase Cheap Land
If you can purchase land, do it. The ever-expanding population means property is scarce. Snatch up affordable land, and secure your future.
Create A Community
Building bonds within the community today can help tomorrow. In a crisis, seeking help could be dangerous. Better to build relationships now while you can.
Stock Up On Necessities
Creating a stockpile of everyday necessities is essential. Stock up on things that may be difficult to acquire in a crisis, not only food but also other necessary items.
Consider storing medications, personal hygiene products, first aid supplies, batteries, cash, clothing, and tools.
Become Self-Sufficient
One of the best things you can do to combat an impending recession is to become more self-sufficient.
You can become more self-sufficient no matter where you live. Here are a few ways to create self-sufficiency:
- Grow food: You can grow many plants in pots. Consider growing carrots, peas, beans, potatoes, and other veggies to save money.
- Grow medicinal herbs: When medical care won’t be available, having medicinal herbs on hand could make a world of difference. Here’s a medicinal garden kit that has the 10 medicinal plants you need to have in your backyard in a crisis.
- Preserve food: Learning to preserve food is a great way to prepare for a crisis. Preserved foods last a long time and can be easily stored.
- Learn new skills: Some skills will help in a crisis. Gain handiness skills, learn a trade, and discover first aid. These skills, and many others, will be valuable.
- Switch to reusable products: Swap to reusable water bottles, bags, and containers. This small change can save a significant amount of money.
- Locate resources: Find local resources that will help in a disaster before you need them.
- Look into alternative energy: Solar panels or wind turbines could be the way of the future. Don’t wait. Look into these options today.
- Turn to natural products: Stop wasting money on products that can be made at home. Look for natural alternatives to products you use daily. You will save a significant amount of money and help the environment.
- Don’t replace; repair: Fix an item when it stops working. Online tutorials can help you repair almost anything. Try it before you toss it.
We already know that inflation is inevitable. If you can change even one thing to make your household more self-sufficient, you will be ahead when SHTF.
Preparing needs to start today because tomorrow may be too late!
While no one wants to think about what could happen, we must prepare. It is past the point of pondering.
History has shown us the power of a system-wide failure; I assure you, the effects would be far worse today.
If you are not ready, you will be left behind. Thankfully, it’s not too late. Use the tips above to help you prepare for the inevitable and stay safe.

Saving money is good BUT they can turn your money off,.
Buy some silver, at lease you can have something that they can not turn off.
Buy coins or small sizes, so you can have different amounts for different things.
Don’t fall for saving money, it will become worthless, that’s what they want you to do is to have a FALSE sense of security.
Obama said it best, the American people are to small minded to take care of there own affairs and WE should give up our Rights to a Severance Government
Yes, he said that back then, how far has it came, now.
Do what you fill is best for you to do or say. Don’t rely on anyone, but JESUS.
One day they will flip the switch, then lights out for you…
They are coming, there already here, they are the people around you, maybe right beside you. Don’t be fooled…
Buy silver…The banks have been buying tons of it, because, money will be a one world control thing and not for you or me. But for the Elite only. You will be a slave…
Remember, GREED comes off your back, not there’s.

AP FACT CHECKERS?!
HAHAHAHA!
Silver and gold will both be outlawed. FDR did it in 1932 and it did not get undone until Nixon in 68. They could not do silver because our coins were made from it. Now they have the 4th branch of govt. to monitor you. Social media. People will turn you in for a few cans of food. Watch. Beria never had it so good in the old CCP. They had to send people out. FB and Google and MS take care of that for them now as well as Apple. Every key stroke is monitored, trust me. I built data centers. For 20 years.
I agree about money becoming worthless. If we have that kind of meltdown, it will because the dollar is worthless. Panic will ensue.
If it comes to that, gold or silver won’t feed your family. And bartering could end up being dangerous.
Gold and Silver will be the only way that you will have anything that will be worth anything to them.
Better buy some silver and put it up, if the Banks are hording it, then should you do as they are and buy some Silver or Gold.
That is wrong, because silver and gold can feed you and your family and get most that you want when money becomes nothing.
Don’t listen to those that say do not do that because they are not you and they may not see what you see. You are being told to do something and if you do not HEED these warnings, then you will be Deceived by those that do not see because they are blind to what is and what is not.

A Lot more to it than just Shooting.
Assume your home Will Be Attacked.
So – Train NOW.
ARMS – You will need a 22 Rifle & Shotgun for Game,
9mm Pistol and AR Rifle for Defense.
But – Just “Owning a Gun” without training is “Planning to Fail”.

why not just us a AR for hunting
Ever shoot a squirrel or rabbit with an AR?
AR ammo is expensive compared to 22’s
AR15’s come in 22lr calibers..
If it is all you have than OK. But An AR will “Blow a Hole” thru a 4in Solid Oak Tree. I have a sample here. The exit hole is 2in dia. If you are wanting to Vaporize Squirrels – then yes a good gun for that. And the bullet will travel, say 1mi away – more if you shoot upward in a tree. A 22 or even pellet gun will do for squirrels. But you have to be a good shot. A Shotgun with say #4-8 shot is better/easier. I prefer #4(about BB Size) – easier to find when you are eating a squirrel you have killed. For Deer – an AR “Can” be made to work. But not the best choice.
The ar15 in 556 is not blowing 2 inch holes in trees lol.
Again the ar15 comes in various calibers
The “Exit Hole” is 2in. NOT the Entry Hole. The “Entry Hole” is close to .223/5.56.
Lol ok hero
Listen carefully so your fudd butt can understand. The ar15 has about 60 calibers to choose from.
Defedndred lol 556 isn’t well known for blowing holes in tree’s …..
come on man get with the times
crazysquirrel…. 556 isn’t that pricy to shoot. Poly wolf is 30 cents a round and perfect for training.
To those saying that ARs come in 22 caliber, yeah they do but you then still have to get two guns. For my money, my 22 won’t be AR platform but rather the Ruger 10/22. Mine has a scope and I’ve bought the 25 round magazines for it. My AR is for … other things.
The book a friend and I are writing about foraging for food and how to use it would help too! Eating foods that are already growing in your backyard can help stretch any food you have stored!
In the Ozarks back in the 30s, hunting by the locals was so prevalent that deer and other game became scarce. Anyone who thinks that hunting will save them will have a rude awakening in a few months when the animals have all been hunted. Weapons will be needed then to protect livestock from theft!
If you can purchase land, do it….
Well I see a few problems.
1) You pay more taxes. If you fail to pay they steal your land.
2) Defending said land from squatters and thieves, especially if you do not live on it.
3) Lack of water many times for irrigation and such.
And if you grow food there, many will soon discover you have it and rob you, kill you to get it.
Abundant source of calories is your fellow human….
about 170K calories for a man and 130K calories for a woman.
On average.
Start eating those thieves….
We are not going into a great depression. STOP with the scare tactics. This quarter corporations logged historical profits. Not to mention all of the shit people buy their kids for christmas.

The government changed the definition of recession. Why would they not change the definition of depression? If you have been buffered from the turmoil that is happening at this very minute you are blessed. Sales were down for the last quarter. Profits were up because of lay offs and price increases. If you don’t want to prepare thats ok. Dont go begging to your neighbors when you are hurting. Good luck. May the odds be ever in your favor
Lisa my dad would love to sniff you
It is sad that the Lisa Blake’s and Valeramas of our world are so
badly misinformed. No fiat currency(paper money) has ever been
able to survive the test of time. The British Pound is the oldest
fiat currency at around 300 years old.The rest have failed.
Gold and silver are recognized and accepted as money now and have been for 3000 years. Both metals have industrial and
financial/monetary uses.
If the coming collapse is severe enough any economy if you
want to call it that will be strictly barter with an advanced black
market. Most barter transactions will take place under the eye of
an armed over watch.Ask the folks in Venezuela what it’s like.
Todays US silver coins have more copper than silver and we can’t be sure how much if any gold is in Fort Knox.
Look at history and do your home work that way you are less
likely to make foolish comments.
Have land, heat source, water, food, and can grow a garden and breed rabbits. Won’t be rich but can survive there. Helping a friend set up a more independent life now. Thinking up new ways to fit the land and climate is interesting. Won’t really plan to buy or barter if/when the bottom falls out of the economy.
One of believe a congressman did a look see at FT Knox there was reported some gold stored. But over the decades since how presidents used the gold stored there as their ATM? Many dictators have been paid off in gold and the govt’s secret slush fund paid by taxpayers.
I see that things that we accumulate may be a way to get what you might need. For instance, you have two sets of frying pans, or extra sheets. Barter will become important, but the best thing will be to have real friends you can depend on and trust.. These are far and few between. Learn to be independent. I have learned to can and grow food. It gives us extra food in the summer and saves money in the long run because I do not have to buy. I know how to sew so if need was, I would be able to make our clothes.
After we use up our extra barter stuff what is next? We are told to barter extra razor blades or alcohol. But what happens when we have nothing else to barter? Have preppers ever wondered about that part of prepping?
Lorene, Get your various fabrics now and keep them stored in a dark cool dry place. Get your patterns now too, with extra sizes to allow for growth as well as weight loss. Threads and fabric will eventually dry rot if not stored in the dark. Don’t forget the special machine needles for denim fabrics in case we still have electricity.
Hoorah for Lorene! Good job! Folks like her will survive.
Most people are in a depression physically and spiritually. After seeing how they voted for the wrong guy. We are bordering on transitioning from a recession to a depression by the overspending by congress of both parties.
Too many illegal freeloaders depending on taxpayers to bail them out. And lazy young folks who don’t want to work. Many are getting paid more on unemployment benefits than going back to work. Plus the BS of a starting wage at least $15/hr will bankrupt many small businesses in America.
If your gonna stack silver you should do the math, there is an added fee on both sides of the transaction. If you have big bars how are you gonna use it? Most folks buy by Mail. If shtf would you trade food for silver? I kinda feel like gold and silver are better served for the rebuild. I don’t think the tax man will take it for payment. Food for thought
What rebuild.
The one world, rebuild. You can keep it
Your a prepper. Ya then prep some silver. You will need.

Hunter Biden – Blowing holes in trees with an AR. “On a whim” – I was testing to see what size tree might provide “Cover”. For me – Oak needed was 8in Dia +. Assuming center hit. Shooting 223/556 FMJ. 6in Oak was a Shoot-thru. Shooting Live trees.
Depression/recession or no, it is always sound advice to insulate oneself from the possibility of being affected by said crisis, and to have supplies in abundance to help other people out if necessary.
Crises have a way of revealing character, good or bad. I hope that me and mine won’t be found wanting, when that occurs.
If it’s down to me and a guest, and all that’s left is one burrito – we’ll each get half a burrito.
Spunk,
There are five states that gold is legal tender for all debts public
or private.ie the tax man.Anyone considering buying gold or
silver(it’s not too late but getting close) would be wise to buy
fractionals.
1/10th ounce gold coins and pre-1964 US dimes, quarters, and
half dollars are recognized by everyone. There is no silver in a nickel. The pre-1964 coins are 90%+ silver while the post-1964
coin have more copper than silver.
If you go to the bank and buy 100 rolls of dimes, quarters,or half
dollars it is unlikely that you will find any pre-64 coins.Trust me.
There are many online dealers. We use SD Bullion.
Bottom line.Gold is for long term wealth preservation.Silver is for
paying bills and living expenses. That’s all I know.

Mz. or Mrs. Paterson (Whichever you prefer),
You need to take a look at the 1929 crash and it’s effects on the people in our society back then. You mentioned that people should diversify their investments. Most people in 1929 lost all the money they had invested. Most of the banks either closed or drastically reduced their hours and so very few people could access their money if they even had any. The lines were that long. I’m 74 years old and my parents and grandparents lived through the Great Depression and I’ve listened to first hand accounts of the time period.
Now for those who keep saying invest in gold or silver; yes the government will come looking for it if there is a government left. And who do they think is going to give them food for their trash metal. It’s not going to be me. I’m keeping any food I have left for my family. I won’t have any use for their trash metal, but I will have use for my food.
And anyone who tries to take food from my garden better think more than twice about it because they will have a few surprises coming their way. By the way, I live at 7000 feet in Wyoming and have all clay soil that I have to ammend heavily, so that is another reason to protect my garden because it is difficult to grow anything up here.
Just my .02 cents worth. Take it for what it is worth.
Wyo
Oh, I forgot to mention the high rate of suicide in people who were wealthy or had all their security in cash and securities and such. The stores were so empty that there wasn’t much they could purchase with the cash they had hoarded. Much better to put your money into long term food storage than to save it. The Bible says that a loaf of bread will buy a BAG of GOLD. How much will your gold and silver be then. As I said, “trash metal”.
Wyo
