Nicks and scratches may not seem like a big deal, but if you find yourself in an emergency scenario without clean water or access to medical services, these small cuts can quickly become dangerous.
One of the things I always make sure to have on me (and in various places around the house) is a first-aid balm that I make with chicory, calendula, and other herbs.
This first-aid balm can be used on just about everything: cuts, scrapes, insect bites, and even rosacea.
It acts as an anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-inflammatory multi-purpose treatment that can accelerate the healing of your wounds, prevent the spread of infection, and soothe your skin.
Making a salve or balm is incredibly easy – you’ll just need an herb-infused oil and some beeswax. If you’ve never made a balm before, you’ll probably be surprised at how easy it is to make one.
And the best part is you can use this recipe with any other herbs too, depending on which medicinal properties you’re most interested in.
First Aid Balm Herbs
In this recipe, we will be using two dried herbs and some essential oils to give this balm its medicinal properties.
Chicory
This European herb with bright blue flowers has been used for hundreds of years for its many medicinal benefits. Consuming chicory has been used to cleanse the liver and improve digestion for at least 5,000 years.
Today, many people drink a chicory root infusion in place of their morning coffee, thanks to a similarity in smell and flavor.
Chicory also has many benefits as a topical. Its stems, leaves, and flowers have powerful anti-inflammatory properties so chicory is a great herb for reducing pain and swelling.

Chicory contains a lot of beta-carotene, which helps speed up the healing process for skin and other tissues. You can grow and dry your own chicory or purchase dried material from an herbal supplier.
Calendula
Often known as marigold, calendula is a must-have in any first-aid balm because it is invaluable for wound healing.
Just like chicory, calendula reduces inflammation. It also kills bacteria, fungi, and viruses, so it can be used for a wide variety of wounds and rashes.

Calendula is also very soothing to the skin and helps with things like diaper rashes, allergic reactions, and insect bites. It is native to North America and is very easy to grow yourself. You can also purchase it at many herbal suppliers.
Making The Herb-Infused Oil
Making a balm or a salve involves two main components: the base and the oil. The base is usually just beeswax or soy wax – something hard that keeps the other ingredients together at room temperature. We will add this at the last step.
In the meantime, we’ll be making the oil using the herbs listed above.
To make the herb-infused oil, you will need:
- Extra-Virgin olive oil
- Double boiler
- Dried herbs (chicory, calendula, and any other dry herbs you want to add)
You can buy dry chicory and calendula from a supplier to save you some time. However, there’s nothing more satisfying than growing your own medicinal herbs for homemade remedies.
⇒ Buy Your Own Chicory And Calendula Seeds Before They Are All Gone
If you don’t have a double boiler, you can make one as I did by filling the bottom of a pot with a few inches of water and placing a bowl over it. As the water heats up and boils, it will gently heat up the contents of the bowl.
A double boiler is important because you never want to overheat your oil – this can make the oil rancid and it can also diminish the medicinal effects of the herbs.
Note: You can use a different oil if you prefer not to use olive oil. Some great options for this balm are jojoba oil, coconut oil, and almond oil.
Directions:
- Place 1 cup of dried herbs in the double boiler and pour in the olive oil so that the herbs are fully submerged.
- Allow the mixture to infuse over heat for at least 3-4 hours until the oil darkens and takes on the scent of the herbs.
- When finished, carefully pour the mixture into a jar through a cheesecloth to strain the oil from the herbal bits. You will be left with a beautiful healing oil!
Making The Chicory And Calendula Balm
To make your herb-infused oil into a balm, you will need to add a base to it. I chose to use organic beeswax for my base, but you can also use soy wax, paraffin wax, or candelilla wax.
For the balm you will need:
- 1 oz of beeswax
- 1 cup of herb-infused oil that you just made
- Double boiler
- Empty jars or tins for the salve
- Essential oils
I am using lavender essential oil and peppermint essential oil. Lavender acts as an anti-fungal and anti-bacterial topical, boosting the medicinal properties of this balm.
Peppermint oil can reduce itching so it’s great for applying to insect bites or scratches that just need to be left alone to properly heal. It can also penetrate deep under the skin and help with muscle and nerve pain. It makes a great addition to the first-aid balm.
Once again you will need a double boiler, so clean out any remaining herbal oil from your double boiler and set everything up.
Directions:
- Pour 1 cup of herb-infused oil into the double-boiler and add 1 oz beeswax.
- Add 8-10 drops of lavender essential oil. (Optional: You can also add a few drops of peppermint oil).
- Allow the mixture to heat up until the beeswax is fully melted and mixed into the oil.
- Pour the mixture into your salve tins.
- Allow to cool for about 1 hour until fully solidified.
This recipe usually fills 2-3 salve tins depending on their sizes. Once the balm is cooled, you can begin using it on any scratches, wounds, and bites.
Just make sure that you wash out your cuts before putting the balm over them. If wounds are deep, apply the balm and cover with bandages to encourage proper healing.
I was looking online for bee’s wax, so I can make some of this and I found “SOY wax”.
Stay away from SOY anything SOY. it is Toxic and not good for human consumption.
Makes real men into SOY BOYS, NO guts as being a man anymore. Just look at OUR military, bunch of SOY BOYS… and other things that are coming out.
That SOY milk is KILLING you and your family, Stop using it.
Look up SOY. Not, a good source of anything good for people. They are just pushing harm on us by saying that it is good for you. (FDA are LIAR’S, NO Trust) …
Just like ethanol, in gas made from corn, biggest LIE ever. 100% NOT good for the earth or your car…
Good Article, for more ways to have what you might need in a SHTF scenario

Hi red ant. I hope you and your family are keeping well. I don’t want this to be a long post as I’m working like crazy to get the last of my preps together for this year. It’s always a matter of money but now I’m down to more of the non-food items. Shoes, socks, winter boots, fire starters, canning supplies; that kind of thing. I’m so very glad you mentioned say as one of the biggest things to stay away from. The technical term for it is that any soy products are estrogen mimics. It’s probably not that bad for women as it would make them more feminine. Not so good for men as it would make men more effeminate. And as you’re probably well aware as men age their testosterone levels already decrease, I know for myself at over 70 I’m having a heck one of a time trying to put on more muscle. It may be an exercise in futility but I still keep trying. If nothing else in the trying it at least helps me to stay in a little better shape. To me heart health is paramount. I’m having a heck of time doing all this prepping stuff. I’ve reached the point of “prepping exhaustion” and I don’t even want to go shopping anymore but still a few things left to get. As best I can I’m trying to tell some of my closest friends to prepare for a very dark time. No one wants to listen. Very frustrating so I’ve given up. The biggest roadblock to overcome in all this is that it’s all happening in slow motion and still too many think everything is alright. That the government will save us if everything goes south. What fools they are especially if the democrats are in power. They’re already trying to demonize the conservatives and those on the right. Trying to divide us even further and sow civil unrest. For many of society’s ills the Liberal left is really the cause. They are anti-human and ant-freedom. They would like nothing better than to bring in a form of North American communism or fascism. It’s so sad that already so many of our politicians have been hoodwinked and co-opted by the WEF. Sometimes I’m almost convinced that Schwab is the epitome of evil and the return of the antichrist. Almost as bad as the UN’s 2030 Agenda. On the surface it seems as if it’s the answer to all our prayers but then you have to ask yourself how are they going to implement all this and where’s the money going to come from. If they have their way we’re on the road to feudalism where you have the upper crust, the ruling elite. And then the rest of us. The serfs. Where we’ll own nothing and live in mindless bliss. Take care of yourself, red ant. Maybe someday I’ll meet you on the other side.
Armin,
So very Happy to see ya post. Was worried about ya.
Been keeping you, LCC, Miss Kitty and Red in my prayers as we had not seen ya in a bit.
We arr all busy trying to make it happen . I am with you!! Prepper exhaustion!
Lost almost a month due to being out of state for family issues. Now I’m so. Busy, don’t know whether to wind my Butt or scratch my watch!! Lol
Again, glad to see ya posting.
Not sure we should keep wasting our time and energy trying to convince folks of reality, but I also keep trying.
Shalom, Friend.
MadFab
Hello MadFab been worried about you, you’ve been quiet.
Been feeling like Proverbs 30:1 myself.
So much to do, and pray about.
Peace to you and yours
Michael
Armin: glad you’re out of jail LOL. Welcome back, chico. niio
Armin
My wonderful friend, ARMIN, how are you doing. O my, I am so busy that I can’t even get ahead of the poop that is coming every day @ us.
So sorry about not posting to you earlier. I have lost my phone, so I have to use the laptop at work, sorry. I have been so busy myself; I just sold my old hot rod, and it was a lot to get ready to sale. Yes, I did get it sold and now paying off my Harley and then going to put it up for sale. Just getting rid of a lot of stuff that we don’t need any more. Time is coming for us to get ready for the coming of our LORD, Jesus. I know you are ready to see your MUM when you get to Heaven. She will be so happy that she will sing praise to the Father, because she knew that you knew the love that she felt for her whole life. I know I will be so Delite’d to walk up to you and tap you on the shoulder and say hello brother Armin. You will know me as soon as you can stop crying, because it is going to be so much a time of LOVE that we have never felt before. Glory to GOD.
I know that the pressure of this time that is, can be a heavy thing to carry, but we have to stay strong and keep going and never let the enemy come down on us and we are strong and stand up and keep our chins up and we will fear no evil and fright for the glory of our Father in Heaven the creator of all things that are good.
Armin we are the children of GOD, and we were created by God so He would have a family that would love for God to be their GOD. You know that lucifer was GODS most wonderful heavenly creation and lucifer wanted more and no one stands above the glory of God almighty. Our time is getting shorter, so I want to ask you, give your heart to Jesus, please, as your new but old friend, red ant. I have to ask because, my heart is telling me to post this for you and all that read it. If no one will listen, then listen to me.
Well, I know that there have been so many leave the site and all the new people that have come in and posted are good to have but there are some that just don’t get the prepper lifestyle that we older preppers live, so they say things that are not up to standards.
One day we will not have to deal with this life no more. So, give back what belongs to Ceasar and give back what is GOD’s. That is, you… Mark 12:17
Armin, I love you brother and so many more on here that have become very close to me by the information that has be given to all that will listen.
We will meet each other in Glory land. see you there.

Put Honey in your SHTF kit. Use only local raw Honey , not the “Honey product ” found in retail outlets and stores. Seed it with ground sugar crystals and cool to 50 degrees or so, and that will cause it to sugar in a week or so. Sugared honey has an indefinite shelf life. And can be re-liquefied by warming.
Honey is the perfect healer. Kills viruses, prevents infection, and since it is already digested it can nourish the wound and surrounding skin and encourage faster healing. When Honey touches a wound it creates “Hydrogen Peroxide”, in ancient times it was the best healing remedy available.
Just Google Health benefits of raw natural honey and prepare to read a while!
“It taste good too”
@ MadFab Really nice of you, MF. Much appreciated. Really just too busy to post much. Still so much to do and so little time. I’m still ok, my friend. Not quite my time to leave yet. So bloody hot his summer. Just beat the crap out of me. Have to find a way to get a “summer” house much farther north. Hoping you and your family doing well.
By your post assuming LCC, Miss Kitty and Red haven’t been visiting much. The seasoned veterans just too busy getting ready for the dark times ahead. We’ll all be severely tested.
I think the serious preppers realize just how dire the situation and how short the time. There’s a renewed sense of urgency and stress in the air.
Every once in a while I’ll lurk on this page and what I’ve seen are some new names I haven’t seen before and some really stupid conversations going on that I didn’t want to take part in. Almost like some Dem millenials have taken over the page and not really knowing what they’re doing. Just squabbling amongst themselves. 😉
My lord, MF, is there ever some really weird things happening all over the world including some really wacky weather. Flooding. Flooding. Flooding. Drought. Drought. Drought.
Shortages here. Shortages there. Putin playing hardball. The collapse of the American dollar. Yes I know it seems to be strengthening but that’s only in relation to the other world currencies. In reality the intrinsic value of the Fed Reserve Note is nil. The collapse of the American Empire. At least a dozen countries already in serious trouble. And on and on and on. Too many things to list here. The global collapse we’re heading for will be unlike anything we’ve seen before. It’ll be a doozy. Much worse than the last great depression of the thirties. Maybe even lasting longer.
For those awakening and just starting to prep now they won’t have nearly enough to last them through the duration of the whole crisis. I don’t not see this ending well. This is going to so radically change society we won’t recognize it coming out the other side. Unfortunately many will not survive this.
Appreciate your kind comments my friend. Again wishing you and yours all the very best. 🙂 I know You’ll make it through!
Surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off.The salvation of man is through love and in love.
ודאי יש עתיד, ותקוותך לא תיגדע. ישועת האדם היא באמצעות אהבה ובאהבה.
Yes. Let’s pray for peace. Love is the only thing that will save us.
I see so many on here that honestly do care about each other and just wanted you all to know how it touches my heart. If only more could care and feel for others like we all do…could you imagine the world we could accomplish together?
Anyways, I appreciate all of your help, advice, and encouragement. It means the world to me. Please keep safe and continue to pray for us all and each other.
Quality bees wax
@Red Thanks red. Prison was a bitch. Wasn’t me that broke into the FED. Justice is blind. 😉
Glad to hear you’re still around. Hope everything ok. Hope you’re prepping harder than ever. I really don’t like the direction everything is taking. Even the earth itself seems to be angry.
Now just waiting for LCC and Miss Kitty to chime in and let us know they’re still ok.
All the very best to you and yours my friend. Keep on keeping on.
As this is made with olive oil, I suspect the shelf life to be limited, but don’t know how long until the oil goes rancid. Still going to save this article and start growing the necessary herbs. thanks!
Use coconut oil instead. As a saturated oil, it will be much more resistant to rancidity.
Yes to coconut oil.. it is antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral! A true life-saver!
I agree with you. Soy is not good, especially today’s GMO soy. Indeed, the phytosterols in soy mimic estrogen, definitely not good for men.
What about NON GMO soy, would that be good?
NO!!!!!! SOY at all. Maybe only organic, but not worth the risk. To me
Some things are good, and something are good because they tell you it is good. Remember liar, liar, pants on fire… Don’t believe everything. RESARCH ALL…
FDA says that beef lard is bad for you. FDA says that vegetable oil is good for you.
Look them up and see which one is good, beef lard. Vegetable oil has a binder in it to keep the oils together and that binder is killing everyone.
FDA says that BHA is okay, as a color enhancer, but it is very toxic to the human body.

94% of soy is genetically modified.

77% of soy is animal feed. is it bad for animals.?
19.2% of soy is for human use. it is bad for humans.
USA and Brazil are the number one producer of soy.
Just a small InSite into soy. killing points.

Over the centuries billions of Asians have eaten soy products as a major part of their diet and none of the evil effects of soy have ever been seen. I’ve been on one kind of paleo or another most of my life so I don’t eat soy, also I find the taste of soy products objectionable, good grief I bought a jar of Mayo recently made with soybean oil and had to throw it out. But the belief that soy is bad shows a person to be unsophisticated at evaluating info, which makes them a danger in a survival situation. Honestly, I hate Soy products but in a major TEOTWAWKI situation I will be the 1st one out gleaning soybeans which are the most widely planted crop in the U.S., except for maybe pot.
Soy is soy. The Chinese had soy long before GMO. See my post about soy somewhere else on this page. Not that great for some women and DEFINITELY not good for men. I would only eat soy products if there was absolutely nothing else and I was truly starving. And if I had some Wooster sauce or HP to put on it. 😉
@ WANDY AND ARSEPOETIC:
There is virtually is NO organic soy. I know because I tried to find some. (for candles, but nothing organic so I went back to beeswax, which I like better anyway) You may find non GMO, but really, do NOT eat soy! Asians only consume soy in small amounts as fermented, as it is the only “safe” way to consume it. And again, only in small amounts.
@Arsepoetica
If all you have left to eat is soybeans then by all means eat then to keep from starving but they wouldn’t be my first choice. BTW have no soybean products on hand. Lots of rice and Heinz beans and plenty of seasoning so I have a little variety when it all goes to heck. When I was married my wife got on a soybean and tofu kick. Never did like that crap. To me like eating Styrofoam. But each to their own and if you have soybeans stocked away more power to you. Just not for me. Never got used to chick peas either. Hummus makes me want to gag. Give me beans in tomato sauce any day. Goes with just about anything. Bread. Potatoes. Rice. Pasta. Pancakes. Crepes. Dumplings. And if you don’t want to use up your paper plates when the balloon goes up and you’ve gotten into baking your own bread do as they did in the middle ages. Use very thick slices of bread as your soup bowls. At one time one of the major coffee franchises offered something called a bread bowl. Hollowed out pimperknuckle filled with hot soup. Delicious!
Can anyone recommend a good online herbal supplier?
Personal you can source out the stores on-line but I avoid baker creek
Mountain rose herbs
Mountain Rose is out of calendula flowers. They only have powder and extract.
Starwest Botanicals
I love Mountain Rose Herbs…They have a wide variety of organic herbs.
Penn Herbs
Mountain Rose Herbs, Starwest Botanicals, are two I use all the time. MRH is in my town so I frequently go there to get my stuff. Just be aware that since the USPS changed some of its guidelines, if you order essential oils or products like witch hazel, it has to go FedEx as USPS charges an arm and a leg. (they are cnsidered hazardous by the USPS now).
You can sometimes get good products on Amazon, or try ETSY. Just be aware that ETSY is world wide and you just may get something that takes forever as it comes from Croatia or similar. Plus shipping is pretty spendy.
A bit of raw honey is good in this also.
It does not say but I am assuming that the Idea is to keep the water temperature below boiling for the 3-4 hours of heat allowed for infusing the oil. Should the water be just hot enough to warm the oil but not make it hot? Should it be at a low simmer but not a rolling boil? Or does the oil need to be pretty hot to extract the active ingredients from the herbs?
My high school physics class was in the middle of the last century, but it seems that water never heats above the boiling point (which can vary with ambient pressure). The point of using a double boiler is to heat whatever is in the top with steam, which will be at the boiling temperature. Rolling boil or just barely simmering doesn’t make a lot of difference; the steam will be the same temp.
Cause it changed to gas
What temperature are we supposed to heat up the oil and herbs?
I kept the water in the double-boiler at a low simmer, so I am not sure of the exact temperature that the oil got to, but I hope this helps!
Can you use fresh calendula and chicory for this recipe or does it have to be dried?
Caveat: I’m not an expert or even wildly experienced.
Fresh will have a higher moisture content, which might lead to water in your balm/oils. It might need longer to heat and evaporate, or need to be heated to a higher temperature to cause the evaporation, cooking the herbs effectively instead of gentle stewing them?
Go with dried if you can, every recipe I’ve ever seen says to use dried, so I assume that’s for a reason.
Dried works best because of lower moisture content. If you have fresh herbs, I’d recommend drying them. If you’re in a pinch, you can dry them in the oven for 30 min at a low temp – around 200 F.
Which parts of the calendula & Chicory plant are you using for this?
For the calendula, I used dried flowers. For the chicory, I used the whole plant – flowers, leaves, and stems. Hope this helps!
You can buy pure beeswax to make candles. I got mine online.
What parts do we use? Roots, flowers or stems? Does the water need to stay at a boil for the 3 or 4 hours? If so, you will need to add water every once in a while.
I really love the article, these are great things to learn and do. I just wish it was more specific on exactly what to use.
I’m glad you enjoyed the article. For the calendula, I used died flowers. For the chicory I used the whole plant (stems, leaves, flowers). I kept the water in the double-boiler at a low simmer and I didn’t have to replenish the water, but depending on the size of your pot, you might need to add some as it evaporates. Hope this helps!
there are a lot of beeswax pellets listed on walmart.com
Heavy duty Chevy, what is wrong with Baker creek?
They went woke
ArsePoetica I am inclined to agree.
Soy, in the vast quantities, and particular modern growing methods is ill advised. But so too is anything not in moderation.
A ‘wise prepper’ will learn to read beyond their comfort zone, and moderate critically what they read. The use of soy can be problematic in the modern (American) diet due to it’s overuse, but as a crop you can grow easily yourself almost anywhere in America with short term returns, protein and fibre and carbohydrate nutritional impacts, it’s worth considering.
Everything is useful, in the right quantity, at the right time.
In our house it’s highly likely balms will be made with soy … because I have a child who is allergic to honey and coconut. But also because soy is a shelf stable, accessible product.
Are cocoa butter, shea butter, or mango butter good alternatives for beeswax? I, too, am allergic to honey and beeswax.
I’ve not heard of mango butter…
You want a wax/fat that is stable and firm at room temperature I presume. Cocoa and shea butter are similar to coconut if I recall correctly and will ‘melt’ on a warm day (not even a hot summer day, just anything over about 30c)
This is why I am leaning towards soy as a setting base. I’m not sure what else is out there
You could also look into candelilla wax, which tends to stay firm at room temperature, much like beeswax. Otherwise, you could go with soy wax or synthetic beeswax (although I prefer using all natural ingredients in medicinal stuff)
Interesting article, and certainly anything we can do to help ourselves, especially when there is no other help available is always something to take note of, but I haven’t come across these particular herbs in any other article as a source of or being listed as or noted as anti viral or anti microbial. Anybody find anything to back it up?
Calendula in particular is a moderately effective wound treatment. Red has posted about it several times and I followed some of his ideas reading up on it, especially its use as a wound treatment in the American Civil War. Not a broad spectrum or particularly effective anti-biotic but wide experience has shown it to help. A slurry of sugar and Povidone is likely the most effective treatment for infection of serious wounds, search for info on Sugardine. And, of course, honey.
@ArsePoetica: There are many herbs that can be used to make a healing salve: plantain, echinacea, willow bark, chamomile, arnica flowers, Yarrow, comfrey (be careful with comfrey, it heals very fast so don’t use it on deep wounds as it could close up before it actually heals outside and become infectious) lavender, and on and on. Many of these are antibacterial, and have lots of other medical properties.
What I get from this article, CC, is that Chicory is basically an anti-inflammatory. Calendula also but with apparently some added benefits. This is what Nicole says about calendula. Basically used for skin problems.
“Calendula flower (C. officinalis), also known as “pot marigold,” has been used for centuries to treat dermatological disorders. Calendula plant is used therapeutically for many conditions such as wound healing, jaundice, and blood purification. Pharmacological studies of the calendula plant have detailed the presence of different medicinal compounds like triterpenoids, flavonoids, volatile oil, carotenoids, and amino acids. In addition, the extract of this plant in concentrated levels exhibits multiple pharmacological benefits such as anti-HIV and cytotoxic properties, which means it could be a worthwhile companion to people with certain types of cancers and autoimmune disorders.”
This is what she says about chicory,
“Common Chicory offers a range of health-promoting active ingredients including beta-carotene, calcium, manganese, zinc, folic acid, iron, potassium, and vitamins A, B 6, C, E, and K. The primary bitters are lactucin and lactucopicrin, although other lactones and glycosides are present. The roots are particularly high in inulin which is considered a natural prebiotic.
While there is a marked lack of clinical studies and evidence, Cichorium intybus root is believed to be helpful as it has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and sedative properties. These and others seem to be effective in:
•Reducing swelling
•Chicory plant Lowering blood pressure
•Reducing blood sugar levels
•Boosting the immune system
•Easing constipation
•Reducing appetite
•Easing inflammatory conditions such as arthritis
•Reducing bad cholesterol
•Easing indigestion
•Improving digestive health by boosting healthy bacteria
•Reducing anxiety
•Improving urine flow.
Sorry. Benefit #2 where it says Chicory Plant Lowering blood pressure, “Chicory Plant” is not supposed to be in there. That was just the picture.
Much obliged for the additional insight here. I will add both herbs to next year’s garden plan.
My question is re the herb ratio, would that be a 1/2 & 1/2 of each for the 1 cup?
Yes, I used half and half cup of each! Great question.
What about fermenting with heavy cream? My daughter does that (she studied under her grandfather, a sacred-person). It goes thru a mold stage, but the mold is good. Just scrape it off. niio
Seems such a waste to use heavy cream, Red. That stuff is bloody expensive. If you’re looking to ferment that stuff why not use something like sauerkraut or even yogurt? Yogurt would be my first choice over heavy cream because of the acidity. Or buttermilk? Again because of the acidity. Leave the heavy cream for very special occasions. I only have a few dozen tins of it so definitely saving it.
Soy can be very harmful for women. There are breast cancer types that are fed by the estrogen in soy. I can’t eat it, as that type of cancer runs in my family. And that’s not the only way to ingest estrogen. Every day, untold amounts of it are washed, flushed and thrown in the trash.
Son of a gun, Yvonne. Had no idea. Over the years I have run across so many sources that have said soy products are NOT good for us. I’ve always wondered about something. Asian countries especially China eat a great deal of soy in the form of soybean and tofu and things like that. China has always been called the “weak men of Asia”. Could it be possible that their consumption of soy as one of their dietary staples has something to do with it? H’mm. Interesting question.
NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF SOY ON MEN FROM THE MAS CLINIC
-soy protein alters the physiological responses in men and disrupts estrogen levels
-elevated levels of estrogen stunts muscle development, lowers testosterone, increases cortisol levels, causes gynecomastia, decreases libido, and even reduces sperm production.
-A study in 2007 provided male test subjects over the age of 18 two scoops (56g) of soy protein powder a day for 28 days. The subjects’ testosterone levels decreased 19% during their use of soy protein powder and induced estrogen activity. Their testosterone levels increased 2 weeks after discontinuing soy consumption. In 2014, a study done by Neacsu, Fyfe, Horgan and Johnstone found that excessive soy consumption led to infertility and erectile dysfunction. 99 male test subjects being treated for infertility were found to have been on a continuous soy diet for three months. Their consumption of soy protein on a daily basis were exposing them to unanticipated and highly adverse effects of high levels of estrogen in their body. Similarly, Asian men, such as those from China, India, Japan and Indonesia, consume higher amounts of soy compared to American men. It was found in a 2014 study (Horgervorst 2014) that as a result, these Asian men are 10% more likely to experience erectile dysfunction.
-In addition to hormonal effects, serious long-term health conditions and illnesses can be attributed to high soy consumption. This includes thyroid irregularity, bladder cancer, prostate cancer and dementia, particularly those over 65. Men in Indonesia and China with tofu in their diets were found to have lower memory functions and an increased risk of dementia (Horgervorst 2014).
-As a protein source, soy has a slower protein synthesis than whey, casein and pea proteins and contain “anti-nutrients” like lectin and protein inhibitors that block the digestion and absorption of nutrients. Not all protein sources are equal and some forms of protein are better than others. For those who take fitness seriously, using soy proteins could hinder or reverse progress made at the gym. Consumption of high-quality proteins like meat and whey in favour of lower-quality proteins like soy can lead to a reduction of muscle mass or even atrophy.
So it appears that soy is NOT good for us, especially men. I would say stay away from it.
For the exhausted preppers, hang in there. MANY of us are feeling that way. Just prep what you can and God will take care of the rest. The Bible tells us again and again how God will take care of you if you only ask and trust.
What a comfort and relief to see your words in writing, Busyb. We all know it in our hearts, but at times our hearts can be so heavy. Today is one of those days. Today is 9/11. It’s been 21 years, but the untold pain and agony of this day has not left us here in the big city since the politicians have left the door open, and once again, we are all vulnerable.
You do understand that 911 was a inside job. To destroy the country from within
I think that what many people don’t realize, busybee, is that 911 was only one very small part of a very large ongoing plan to increase control of the people and in the end help to destroy the middle class. Look what’s happening today. This is also being done deliberately. The people at the top manipulating all this are anti-human and anti-life. As strange as it sounds it’s almost like those at the top ruling us are an alien species bent on destroying the human race. Don’t really think that those at the top are some kind of alien species but they certainly are a bunch of very sick sociopaths and psychopaths.
@ Armin and Heavy Duty Chevy: 911 was done to begin the slow removal of all of our personal freedoms by making us WANT to give them away to be “safe”.
I didn’t, but the majority wanted a guarantee of safety on airplanes after, and gave away all of our freedoms to do so, and it just went from there. They didn’t realize (or care) that there IS NO guarantee of total safety.
Evil will always find a way. Just look at how much we have given away since 911, and be horrified.
But of course, GOD is in control, so we don’t need to worry, just be prepared as much as we can, and trust Him to do the rest.
Can you mix the Lavender and Peppermint oils or will that mute their effects? I like the penetrating power of Peppermint, but love the smell of Lavender.
I used both lavender and peppermint. I used much more lavender (about 10 drops) than peppermint (about 4 drops) though. I can smell both and I don’t think the peppermint mutes the lavender, and I definitely feel the effects of peppermint on the skin. Hope this helps!
