Editor’s Note: The next world war will be as “inevitable” as the other two.
If you live in or near a nuclear target you don’t have too many options. The least you can do is to know the 4 Signs of Evacuation.
When to Evacuate the Nuclear Target Areas
1 – When your electronics stop working (most of them – cars, phones, the grid…).
Most experts agree that the next nuclear war will start with at least an EMP. If one of the nuclear powers blasts a nuclear weapon 275 miles above the US it will produce an EMP that will basically send us, the Canadian and the Mexicans back to the Dark Ages. This is exactly what our enemy wants: to disrupt our communication and our ability to retaliate at full capacity. I have something you need to watch. It’s much better than I am at explaining the threat. Watch it and learn what you should fear most (Video), what an EMP effects and how you can protect your electronics, car, mobile phones, etc.
2 – When you hear on the news that another nuclear bomb has just detonated.
It doesn’t matter if it’s in the US, Russia or China… I’m thinking that when a nuclear bomb explodes we face 3 possibilities: a nuclear war which may involve the US, nuclear terrorism which means that the first explosion may be followed by another four, or human error like in 1956 when the US Air Force accidentally dropped two atomic bombs on North Carolina. If it’s the last case… then yes you’ve probably evacuated in vain. But the risk worth the effort!
3 – When a Nuclear Bomb explodes a few miles away, but does not kill you.
If you’re not killed in the first few minutes, you can live a lifetime or die of cancer in the next few days. The longer you expose yourself to radiation (in the radioactive area) the lowest the chances to survive. Take your family and leave as fast as you can!
4 – When we declare war on another nuclear power or vice-versa.
Of course, nobody would be stupid enough to announce a nuclear war ahead, but with leaders like Obama… you never know.

Out of curiosity I searched for maps that would reveal nuclear targets in the United States, and I’ve posted them here for your interest.
The nuclear targets map shown bellow is one that I put together based on a number of factors while looking at other maps and data including military installations, nuclear weapons storage and silo locations, bases, cities, etc.. No doubt I’ve missed a number of them, as well as other probable strategic locations, but it’s simply food-for-thought.
The large target ‘blob’ areas shown within the apparent sparsely populated regions of Montana, N.Dakota, WY/NE/CO represent known ICBM silos and nuke storage. Also, it may seem like there are more ‘red dots’ on the map than any probable nuclear attack, but believe it or not, there could potentially be more – given the many thousands of nuclear weapons in Russia (for example).
The nuclear target and fallout maps shown below are in the public domain. They vary with regards to nuclear proliferation and opinion of the day during the time they were published years ago.
Some maps are older than others and might not represent some of the changes which have occurred since their publish, but they are still interesting to examine, especially relative to one’s own location…
No one will win a nuclear exchange. History has shown that there have been psychopathic leaders – who had they possessed nuclear weapons, they surely would have used them. Are there still such people today? Of course there are. Lets hope that none of them ever are in control of ‘the button’.
The real effects surrounding the nuclear targets on any given map will depend on the type of nuclear detonation.
A ground burst detonation will not only pulverize everything within a given radius, but will also pulverize many countless tons of soil and dirt into the atmosphere. This will create a very dirty nuclear fallout situation.
An air burst detonation will still destroy buildings and everything on the ground from its shock-wave (within a blast radius), but it will not pulverize the soil and ground like a ground burst detonation would. This will result in less overall fallout in the atmosphere, however this fact is not to diminish the consequences…
In both circumstances, radiation (particles) will reach into the atmosphere and drift with the lower and upper level winds. While they will eventually fall out (some quicker than others), the effects could be long lasting.
There are many nuclear power plants located across the country. If the power grid (or part of the power grid) goes down during a nuclear exchange, there will additionally be a high probability that some (or many) of these plants will present a real and present danger if they cannot ‘scram’ in time – while critical systems are held up by diesel backup generators and dependence on a constant delivery of fuel to keep them running.
The Russians (and others?) are apparently ahead of the US with regards to EMP research and technology. Some believe that a nuclear first strike will ‘first’ involve a salvo of EMP detonations at high altitude (potentially via orbiting satellites, or launched from submarines or even off-shore freighters). This will likely take down the power grid, followed by a first wave of nuclear strike. The primary targets will likely be military installations, while a secondary wave will broaden in scope. A third wave would likely involve strategic bombers mopping up what’s left. The first and second wave could be all over in minutes to an hour (point being – it will be fast).
Okay, that said, lets look at a few target and fallout maps…

ok where to go if this happens
I’m glad you made up your own map, what are your credentials..?? The map you made is idiotic as I have a true target map because I work in a nuclear installation, all I can say is you are not even close with the first strikes, also vehicles that are shut off when EMP hits will start, cars that are running will ahut down and be useless. Where to go if nuked and not dead on impact, depends on the way the wind is blowing and you go atleasr 50 miles in the opposite direction. ..
So where are your maps bo?
OK; so you are a Smart Ass; you made that clear. The Author here has done a great service for Prepper’s, while you snipe from the Tall Grass.
Please share with us your Web Site on the same subjects; so we too, might be enlightened.
And; why don’t you help this Posting Site; get it right; if there are errors to be corrected.
I suspect that you are a, “Boo-Bird;” that really doesn’t know, Jack Shit!
It sounds that you’re learned in these things, so could we possibly see or get a copy of your map. Could we come by and visit you at your installation and look at your map. Maybe get some pointers on what we should do to survive an attack.I know I’d really appreciate it.
Ha. He’s probably a Bot and won’t share the maps — if he has any. We the people better start electing (moral leaders) or we are so screwed. It’s been a long time since we’ve had any moral leaders in office. 🙁
That’s a cold war map, 275 miles up would put you in orbit and an emp up that high would have little to no effect. I was in the Air Force and know what and how an EMP works.
My book Stacey’ Quest tells the horror of the EMP attack. Not much need for nuclear war after that.
I recognize several of these maps as classified during my military career. The best from Pravda is not here, it uses the traditional Russian names.
Nice map.
Ever heard of the US states of ALASKA and/or HAWAII?
Just “F” us all right?
This is more than tiresome, it’s insulting.
But hey, who cares right?
You got it. We’re prime targets because of location. Heck, this a-hole Korean dictator knows this but no one else does. Take Hawaii and you got the whole mainland.
You have that right! Seems like these guys never heard of Pearl Harbor or the subs offshore. We’re a prime target because of the strong military force here. Our place is only 12 miles from PTA on the Big Island.
Everyone should have an ample supply of potassium iodide tablets on hand (a with a potency of 65 mg or more) ! That way if you ARE exposed to radiation it won’t saturate your thyroid gland and kill you ! You can find these tablets online (even Ebay has them) or at your local health food store . I’d suggest having a 3 month supply with a shelf life of 3 years or more . I live up in the mountains outside of the Denver area and I know that when there IS a thermo nuclear war Cheyenne/Laramie , Denver/Aurora and Colorado Springs will all be hit (north to south) but the prevailing winds usually blow to the east or south east away from my area but I’ll still have to worry about any radiation being carried on prevailing winds from the west coast . Unfortunately the way that things are going in this country AND the rest of the world right now the fate of all mankind is in the hands of FOOLS !!!!
Norad, in Colorado Springs is ranked as the 9th rated target in the U.S. It also has three Military Bases. A direct hit on Cheyenne Mt., with either a Nuke or a Bunker Buster; may not do much harm ( she may be deep!”) Getting in and out of the Mountain following an attack could take some time. Of course, the surrounding area would be Toasted; and, likely beyond recognition.
I have read that if you use two large galv steel garbage cans; one smaller than the larger; so it fits in the bigger can; one has created a simple version of the notorious, “Cage.” Who can confirm? Also, it would be important to place the Lids tightly on top and seal the edges. Duck Tape – – anyone?
Oops! . . . and, don’t forget put your Electronics inside!
Seems to me; without some time of reliable & regular Communications System; the Anxiety of not knowing what’s happening; and whether it’s safe to move about the Countryside; would be of considerable importance.
Might be wise to have one complete set of hazard garb., & a Geiger Counter; in the event you need a backup; to check out the safety of the area.
Professor,
The idea of a Farraday Cage is to keep the electrons OUTSIDE of the package.
I personally feel that a single can would suffice but the duct tape would only be to prevent water contamination as you would have to seal it with steel wool in the gap and THEN use duct tape over the wool.
String the steel wool out into a 1/4 inch ‘rope’ and then press it into the gap between the can and lid.
A military Faraday Cage Room consists of two layers of copper window screening over a copper covered frame work. The door is also made the same way and there are copper ‘fingers’ along all edges that slide onto smooth copper on the frame when the door closes.
Actual Duct Tape, used in sealing actual, high heat ducts is an aluminum composite with adhesive backing.
In the case of thermo nuclear war I would prefer to die in the first blast, you can have my bob and my weapons. There will be no where to go.
Yeah, in a nuclear conflict, really those who happen to be within the “blast radius” will be the lucky ones, only in the sense that they won’t feel a damn thing, they will instantaneously be vaporized.
The electromagnetic wave from a nuclear blast would go right through a copper based Faraday Cage. Look at the inside of an electronic device for the metal boxes used to isolate components inside them. Those boxes are steel, not copper. The idea of 2 steel garbage cans is fine, the steel wool is not needed if the covers are tight fitting. The issue is to create a type of capacitor to reduce the induced voltage that the EMP pulse will create. The space between the 2 cans MUST be insulated. Paper will do, anti-static plastic is better. As for what you put in the container, cover it with plastic, then cover that with aluminum foil, then cover it again with plastic, anti-static is best, then another layer of foil. This again makes a type of capacitor, which further reduces the charge from the EMP and adds to the protection. I would store laptops, batteries, communication radios, smaller variety TV screens, and other electronic devices, such as a car computer, and electronic devices a car needs to operate. Do not forget gutted microwave ovens as EMP shelters, refrigerators, with a strap over the door gap, old freezers, stoves, or cardboard boxes that have been covered in foil. Personally, if push comes to shove, being at ground zero is the best place to be. The nuclear winter to follow from all of the dust in the air will be long term, and deadly. It’ll make the dust bowl days look like a picnic.
According to Dr. Author Bradley who actually conducted replicable testing, it is not necessary to eliminate all electron flow. It is only necessary to reduce it to the level that will not damage the equipment you are trying to protect. That said, many of our electronic devices operate on very small circuitry and thus are more susceptible to a minor electron flow than, say, the electrical circuits in a ’58 Buick Roadmaster. While the first evidence of what an EMP attack could do was quite a while ago during some of the testing we did in the Pacific, To the best of my knowledge, other than what I have read of Dr. Bradley’s experiments— and I have done extensive reading on the topic — little or no formalized, replicable testing has been done on various objects to see how they would perform after an EMP event. The only testing that was done on automobiles was done on the tester’s personally owned autos and when the autos started to conk out, the test was discontinued to avoid damaging the cars. Hardly what one would call extensive testing. If other tests have been done, it would be valuable to know who, how, when , where, the extent and the results of the testing. Some unnamed “scientist” conducting tests at an unnamed institution, peer reviewed by nobody is hardly the kind of information one would want to base any proactive measures on.
It is hard to determine just what might take place after a HEMP. So many factors to consider, altitude, size of the bomb “Kilo or Mega ton”, weather conditions, winds, etc. If high enough the pulse would react with our magnetic envelop around the Earth. If a HEMP is used vs ground burst we would not experience the destruction of people (initially) and structures. It would be based on those factors probably take out the electrical grid for sure (transformers are AC 60cps, and the EMP pulse is DC which would burn transformers out) also sensitive electronic equipment, maybe some would not be damaged, especially if in a Faraday cage.
May the force not be with you. Prepper me.
what would take place after a ‘HEMP’? Probably not much! Hey, but who cares, as long as your having fun… Wow, man!
There is ANOTHER “nuclear threat” we should also be acutely aware of;. Now, you all can laugh or think I’m bat-$hit crazy or whatever, but I have been having “precognitive visions” for over a decade, so far, ALL but one of these visions have came to pass; I have a FEW which are still “forthcoming”, so therefore have not been ruled out either way as of yet. The very WORST of my “visions” is that the worst “terrorist attack” in the history of MANKIND will take place here on U.S. soil. It will be a nuclear attack, NOT a “dirty bomb”, but a large kiloton strategic OR tactical nuke, wheeled in on a large truck, disguised as other cargo or concealed altogether, and detonated in a major city. I think it will be most likely be Phoenix, but MAYBE San Diego. Just like 9/11, this TOO will also be an “inside job”, however, ISIS will be blamed, and I think they will “claim” the attack even though they weren’t actually behind the attack. After all, just WHOSE payroll is ISIS on…..?? Hint hint……
HAHAHA Reading this during the “Trump Era,” in which there is currently an extremely real nuclear threat. Things like “Of course, nobody would be stupid enough to announce a nuclear war ahead, but with leaders like Obama… you never know.” I wonder if you still feel that way with a current president who has threatened nuclear war on multiple occasions. Take a step back, reassess your judgements bro.
What I worry about is the radiations from a Hemp, It is like exray and goes through electronic transistors, ic chips like a 30 cal bullet. Nothing electronic will work when this happens.
This is why the Russians used tubes for ever in their communications equipment. They became masters at making mini tubes.
They have had this type of bomb since back in the sixties, the radiations does not all ways kill the people but sure destroys solid state devices.
A faraday cage does not stop this radiation from entering and destroying electronics.
EMP is a minor thing compared to this. This bomb exploded at 200 miles high over central US would take our country back 150 years.
So you find a place to hide. Then the fallout comes and destroys our food and water supply. But thank goodness I survived the initial attack. I have freeze dried foods and a post apocalyptic world to use my cell phone and laptop in! Not to mention holing up in my bunker looking to kill anyone who comes near my stuff! But I got the map and places to hide. SMH
Hahahaha!! What happens IF you manage to spare your Cell phones, Electronic devices in a Faraday Cage? What cell Towers are gonna be working and how about the Internet, WiFi and such…..After and EMP Strike? Think about it and let us know your thots on this subject…anyone?
