The olive leaf has been used for ages for nourishment and medicine. The Bible shares many instances of the olive tree. The olive leaf was used even before Christ. Ezekiel 47:12 “The fruit thereof shall be for meat and the leaf thereof for medicine”. Christians claim that the leaf in this scenario is the olive. The Bible contains answers to some of the greatest problems. When properly comprehended, it addresses all our necessities and faults. Many cultures attributed divine power to the olive.
Egyptians extracted oil from the olives and used it to preserve the bodies of their kings. It is hard to ignore how special the olive leaf is being the first herb mentioned in the scriptures. (Genesis 8:11) “And the dove came to him in the evening, and lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf plucked off. So, Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth”. This symbolized the end of God’s wrath to humanity.
(Romans 11:24) “If you were cut from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and grafted contrary to nature, into a cultivated olive tree how much more will these, the natural branches be grafted back into their olive tree. According to (James 5:14), olive oil was a sacred tool. “Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord”.

Scientific Reports and Discovery of Wild Olive
The first time the olive leaf was mentioned formally was in 1854 when Daniel Hanbury wrote a report on how the olive leaf cures fever and malaria. He came up with the following recipe: Boil a bunch of leaves in a small amount of water. Then give the patient 150 ml every three hours up to the point where the fever disappears. This method was used for many years in England to cure the sick coming from tropical colonies.
A century later, scientists discovered oleuropein, which is an essential component of the olive leaf. Oleuropein prevents against damage from bacteria and insects. It also increases blood flow and offers relief from intestinal muscle spasms. After a couple of experiments were carried out, it was found that oleuropein dissolves the outer lining of micro-organisms, thus eliminating them. Enolic acid is a compound found in oleuropein.
It inhibits the growth of bacteria and viruses. Researchers in Tunis discovered that an aqueous extract from olives reduced the chances of getting lifestyle diseases. Nowadays, the olive leaf has become increasingly popular and recognized in the field of science. Currently, some of the compounds in the leaf are being used to cure pneumonia, tuberculosis, meningitis, influenza and hepatitis B.

Benefits of Olive Leaf Extract
Natural cancer treatment – Oleuropein acts as an anti-angiogenic and antioxidant. It reduces the growth of tumors by hindering the production of cancerous cells. According to research conducted in Greece, olive leaf extracts contain high levels of anti-oxidant. The extracts inhibit the growth of cancerous cells in the breasts, bladder and brain.
The cure for Arthritis – Olive leaf extracts act as an anti-inflammatory agent. It reduces the pain that occurs when bones rub together and cut down the production of enzymes and cytokines that contribute to inflammation.
Eliminates fungi and bacteria – Olive leaf extract is known to fight bacterial and fungal infections. It also treats ear infections and urinary tract infections. The extracts kill dermatophytes which cause skin, nails and hair infections.
Boosts immune system – It has properties that fight against dangerous viruses and prevent the flu. Research has shown that people who take olive tea have lower chances of getting respiratory infections including influenza. The leaf is very beneficial to both humans and animals.
Healthy skin – The olive leaf contains anti-aging properties. This is brought about by its anti-oxidants that prevent the damage of cells by oxidation. It can be consumed orally or applied directly to the skin for maximum benefits.
Lowers blood pressure – According to a study carried in 2011 when two hundred and fifty milligrams of olive leaf extract is taken twice a day for two months, blood pressure reduces significantly. Olive leaf extract has more benefits compared to Captopril which is the recommended medicine for high blood pressure as it reduces cholesterol levels too.
Choosing to take olive leaf extract over Captopril will save you from side effects such as a dry cough, dizziness and headaches. Oleuropein works by relaxing the arteries, regulating blood pressure and reducing the formation of clots. Olive leaf extracts improve blood flow to all the body parts, regulates heartbeat and maintains blood sugar levels.
Neuroprotection – Olive leaf extracts suppress Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. The extracts protect the central nervous system and the brain from damage brought about by old age and strokes. Olive leaf extracts boost memory and improve concentration. It achieves this by eliminating toxic proteins and oxidative stress.
Improves mood and fights cholesterol – Olive oil is a healthy fat that has hormone balancing effects. Depression and anxiety are often linked to low-fat diets. Cognitive disorders occur when hormones such as serotonin and dopamine are insufficient. These hormones aid in faster thought processing, mood enhancement and enough sleep. In addition to that, the olive leaf prevents the formation of bad cholesterol by preventing oxidation from occurring. Oxidized cholesterol is very harmful to our health and causes weight gain.
Stronger bones – Oleuropein stimulates the development of osteoblasts which are the bone building cells in the body. This enables you to age beautifully with high bone density.
How to Prepare Olive Extract at Home
You will need fresh olive leaves, ethanol or vodka that has 40% alcohol content, a glass pickle jar with a wide neck, muslin and glass dropper bottles.
Preparation Procedure
- Shred the leaves until they become mulchy; then put the shredded leaves in a glass jar and cover them with ethanol.
- Close the glass jar and place it in a dark place with moderate temperature.
- Ensure that you shake the glass jar daily and that the alcohol is enough to cover all the leaves.
- After two weeks, your tincture is ready; filter and bottle the solution.
Dosing (oral)
To reduce high blood pressure, take 30 ml of olive oil daily. To eliminate constipation, a dosage of 30 ml is recommended. In case you suffer from cholesterol, two tablespoons of olive oil daily are all you need. To prevent cardiac arrest, consume about one liter of olive oil weekly.
Precautions
Olive oil lowers blood sugar, thus diabetic people should ensure they check their blood sugar level regularly when using it. Moreover, if you are scheduled for surgery, it is advisable to stop consuming it at least two weeks before as it might alter blood sugar. However, after surgery olive extract is recommended as it promotes the healing of wounds.
In a nutshell…
…the easiest way to get these benefits is to make your own extract from olive leafs. We should all embrace the “Tree of Life” and enjoy all its benefits. All races should be enlightened about this sacred tree, and all those who have spent thousands of dollars trying to get cured should give the olive leaf extract a try.

Where do i get olive leaves- and do i use fresh or dried?
If you live in The Peepul’s Republik you can get them fresh or dried from your neighbor’s tree. There was a time when everybody had them in their yard but the olives are messy when ripe if you don’t use them and they stain concrete driveway black with a stain that last’s several years. Consequently lots of people had them taken out. The Kally climate is perfect for growing olives much like the Mediterranean climate. Yuppie (artisanal) olive oil is the new in food here in the peepul’s republik.
Article says fresh leaves
Barlene’s Olive Leaf extract (with mint) is an excellent product.
You were talking about olive leaf extract and the suddenly you were saying olive oil – which is it, or both?
Another Magic Bean cure.
How reliable is “Boil a bunch of leaves in a small amount of water”?
What is “A bunch of leaves;” “A small amount of water”?
By the mid to late 19th century, the scientific method was starting to filter into the various branches of science. No reliable source such as Daniel Hanbury would ever give a formula as indicated in this Magic Bean article. The recipe would read “Boil .5 kg of fresh olive leaves in 150 ml. of water.”
The next glaring error is olive oil from leaves. Sorry, this is the Peepuls Demokratik Republik of Kallyforniya where artisanal olive oil is the latest yuppie affectation. We have an artisanal olive farm not ten miles from our house where they do their own pressing and bottling and we have toured it. Olive oil comes from the fruit, not the leaves. It used to be produced by being milled between two large mill stones. Nowadays they use a centrifuge to express the olive oil. It’s quicker and releases more oil. Having listened to the lecture on olive oil, I can give you quite a bit of detail on the various grades and varieties of olives including the sex life of the olive tree. However, I won’t take up the space because it is a two-hour lecture. For the prurient minded, olive trees come in two sexes, male and female. The lecturer didn’t mention any alternative choices.
Repeat after me: “There is no Magic Bean.” Charlatans have been selling snake oil to desperate people for centuries. They continue to sell snake oil and desperate people continue to throw good money after bad seeking the Magic Bean. You want to try tincture of olive leaf, go ahead, but I would start in very small doses to make sure you don’t have some kind of really adverse reaction. Olive oil is good to use on your food but if it is so great and cures so many things, did you ever ask yourself “What do the Italians, Greeks and Spanish die of when they are not shooting each other?”
The longest living nationality that I know of is the Japanese and the Okinawans who are part of the Japanese population by conquest live the longest of all. Olive oil is NOT a component of the Japanese diet, yuppie Japanese or not.
I have some views on what encourages old age in good health which I won’t expound on here unless I have some requests for it because like most of my posts, it is lengthy.
Repeat once again, “There is no Magic Bean.”
A bunch would be somewhat more than two, and a small amount of water is obviously less than 1000 gallons, for normal household use.
DUH!!
Even in Recipe For a Today quantities are given with more specificity than a bunch of parsley and a little olive oil. Didn’t you ever wonder how come these Magic Beans cure so many ailments? Shades of Doctor Ezekiel’s Snake Oil. Cures baldness, bad breath, aching feet, scurvy, dandruff, diarrhea, constipation, dyspepsia, piles and incontinence.
Don’t misunderstand me, I acknowledge that certain plants contain ingredients that alleviate or even cure some diseases. What arouses my suspicions is when I see a long list of ailments that the Magic Bean is supposed to cure and I see preparations listed with vague quantities like a “bunch” and “a small amount” and this formula is attributed to a man of science, not Aunt Polly on Witch’s Mountain in Marshy Holler, NC.
We also have scientific studies being performed in Tunis, capitol of Tunisia. You may be inclined to put your faith in an un-named “scientific” study performed in a Third World city and that is certainly your prerogative. On the other hand, I prefer to put my health in the hands of someone who has just a few more credentials than some “men of science” in a third world city. You know, like maybe, John Hopkins University; Edinburg University School of Medicine. I also prefer to ignore the medical advice of the 8th century, illiterate religious zealot mentioned in the Magic Bean post of yesterday. But it still is a free country, sort of, and you are still free to spend your money on whatever Magic Beans you want. And who knows, with the power of suggestive medicine, they may work for you if the ingredients aren’t harmful. Remember they used to sell salves containing mercury as a cure for syphilis sores. Yeah, it cured the syphilis sore but killed you with mercury poisoning. Didn’t really cure the syphilis either, just made the lesion go away which it would have sooner or later anyway. Hey, tincture of olive leaves will probably make you feel better for a while if you can get past the taste. It’s 80 proof alcohol. Don’t bother messing around with the leaves, just guzzle the 80 proof vodka. You will feel better until the next morning.
You’ve obviously never used herbs, oils or tinctures as curatives. We use them all the time in this household. They work far better than commercially-made chemical “medicines”. Our doctors know of our use and approve. They are often amazed at our results with our herbs, etc, when their potions didn’t work or made things worse.
amen…us also
Sorry there is oil in the leaves, medicinal oils from leaves is a long time honoured craft, the oil from the fruits is one type oil extracted from the leaves is a different kind.
The above article did make sense to me and I understand the article references a leaf extract and also olive oil for diferent uses. I have a small growing area and will research olive trees. I am also interested in growing two or three ovacados, a couple mangos, some figs, some leafy greens, plus plus…
ThankYou
Paul: If you live in coastal SoCal you should have no trouble with any of those fruits. Avocados, mangos, olives and figs all do well in SoCal. I can’t talk about any of the other fruits, but if you want your olive tree to bear fruit there has to be a male olive tree somewhere in the neighborhood. Only female olive trees bear fruit according to the guy in Ojai who is raising them commercially. Spanish olive oil trees have a different flavor from Italian and Greek. Apparently the olives from those 3 different major olive producing countries all produce different flavored olive oil. Personally, I can’t tell much difference but that is just me. I suspect it may be a little like wine snobbery. If you live north of Fargo, North Dakota, forgedda bout it. You will need a well-heated green house. It can be done. Aboreta do it all the time but it takes knowledge and an inexhaustible supply of money.
Hello left Coast Chuck,
I am originally from Manhattan Beach, now happily reside in Orlando, similar climates but different. Looks like a couple of olive trees can have a home here. We did have an avacado tree in MB, now citrus and grapes and cherries and herbs, ready for more of a food forest. I appreciate all insights. Thanks All!
Just a thought for you down there in Florida,

Just a side bar note on the Moringa Tree: The very best Moringa is grown in India. Because of the high stress that the trees endure there (due to the excessive heat) they produce the very highest amounts of nutrients and minerals. Also the whole tree (leaves, seeds and fruit) should be included in the mix. All of those three parts each contain very essential ingredient’s. (see the following chart)

Moringa is rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, potassium, calcium, iron and protein. It also contains eight essential amino acids and other powerful antioxidants. Moringa contains more than 90 nutrients and 46 different antioxidants which make it an excellent source of nutritive ingredients.
Moringa leaves are rich with all of these nutrients. The leaves contain seven times more potassium than bananas and twice the amount of protein found in milk. Also, compared to milk, Moringa leaves are better as they contain four times more calcium and none of the acid, therefore all the calcium is used in your body to build bones instead of neutralizing the acid found in milk.
Vitamin A level in Moringa leaves is four times higher that in carrots.
Moringa powder, which is actually ground dried leaves of Moringa, has seven times more vitamin C compared to oranges, 36 times the amount of magnesium in eggs, 50 times more vitamin B3 than peanuts and 50 times more vitamin B2 than bananas.
The Moringa tree is truly the best source of all the needs of the human body. The best place to get the best Moringa is from India, as mentioned earlier.

Sorry it DOES NOT SAY cures/kills cancer. Inhibits.
If you make the tincture, I would just take a teaspoon, then more if it does not make you ill, then increase it to Tablespoon. Time for that old common sense thing. How long? Who knows. Same thing with any ‘medicine’. I don’t mean to be MEAN,,but I’ve read so many posts on here, where the answers is listed and then people keep asking, mostly the same question.
On a side, when a recipe says a bunch. Grab a bunch. I would say at least, half a cup of mulched olive leaves. Then cover with alcohol. So, cover the leaves in alchohol. Let it sit, like they say. I used to make homemade LIQUORS using plain alcohol at Christmas time. Very easy to make.
Home made Caraway liquor. I sweeten mine. But sugar is supposed to ‘help’ CANCER GROW, so i would NOT use anything of ‘sugar’ in the OLIVE tincture.
If you want to fight cancer (and kill it), check out the information about B17, a.k.a. Laetrile or Amygdalin.
go to http://www.1cure4cancer.com and read everything found on those pages.
As mentioned earlier on a post, my wife completely killed her breast cancer in under 60 days (stage 3a to stage 0). If you would like the complete story contact me here and I would be glad to email it to you or post it again on these pages.
Take B17, eliminate ALL sugar from your diet and eat no carbs…for a couple of months, but replace that sugar with that combined in B17 and the cancer kills itself.
I have had people tell me (oncologists and doctors) that ALL cells use sugar, This is true, but to get an idea concerning that, a normal cell has 10 glucose receptors and a cancer cell has 1000. These are not actual numbers, but rather to show the vast difference in the two cell types.
Normal cells use Oxygen to operate but cancer cells ferment sugar. This is why they need such vast amounts of it. For the skeptical in the crowd ask yourself why does a PET scan work so well if all cells use glucose equally. If they truly did use it equally, then a PET scan would not work, but they do exceptionally well.
Please send me what you can. My dog is fighting cancer and I am doing everything I can to save her. I have her on a keto diet. I would most appreciate it.
Umm, “To prevent cardiac arrest, consume about one liter of olive oil weekly.” A LITER of olive oil?? And then have your gall bladder removed? That can’t be right!
You use it on your breakfast cereal in place of milk. I don’t know what a liter of olive oil per week would do to your intentional tract. I wonder if one would ooze oil like that oil substitute that they tried for a while on potato chips but had a really nasty side effect which most folks found highly objectionable.
While I have the same contempt for most doctors as I have for most lawyers, realizing that there are dedicated members of both professions, I also know that there is no magic bean. Consider life expectancy in this country. It is at an all time high. The same applies throughout the upper tier countries throughout the world. If herbal medicines were so dramatically effective over modern concoctions, life expectancy in the 17th, 18th and 19th and early 20th century would have closely paralleled life expectancy today. It didn’t by a wide margin. But herbal remedies have been known for centuries. Why is it that these wonderful herbal remedies didn’t produce the same life expectancy that the modern evil chemicals do?
But, hey, as I pointed out earlier, it is still a partially free country and you are at liberty to spend your money where it pleases you (only if your spouse approves). As Dr. Gott used to say, if it is cheap, doesn’t hurt you and doesn’t keep you from seeking treatment for a fatal disease, go ahead and try it. If swallowing a liter of olive oil a week doesn’t give you the brown drizzlies or some other harmful physical condition, go ahead and knock back a liter a week. Uggg!
Be advised. Most olive oil sold in the U.S. is not extra virgin as it states on the label. Most of the olive oil we import into this country is reject oil from the exporting country. It seems folks in the U.S. just don’t know decent olive oil from OORE (Olive Oil Rejected by Everyone)From my lecture on the the olive oil industry, and from other sources, it appears olive oil has a short shelf life. If the olive oil you are buying does not have a bottling date, it probably is past its benefit providing period. When you do research, review who is doing it. Make sure the people are named and their affiliation is identified. Don’t settle for “Researchers in Greece. . .” That doesn’t tell you a thing. Something that says, “After review by the Greek Biological Academy of Athens, Dr. Artistotle Stephanopolous revealed that in a double blind study of 10,000 Greek men between the ages of 25 and 65 his staff found that . . .”
has some credence to it. It tells you the parameters of the study. It tells you who did the peer review. It identifies the “researcher” rather than some unidentified cabal.
And finally, and I will shut up on this subject. Look at this article. Look at all the weaknesses in it. Please, don’t avoid recognized treatment that perhaps isn’t helping you as much as you want and rely on the shoddy advice that this article puts forth and, perhaps, jeopardize your health.
Hi, do you use Olive oil, and what BRAND do you use? Too LAZY to do all the research. I did know, not all of virgin olive oil, is Virgin or any good. Would you mind, telling us?
Old Prepper: If your comment is addressed to me, I use olive oil on salads and I love it on fresh french bread and other breads. I do not buy Italian olive oil. I have read too many reports that indicate that Italian olive oil may be adulterated with cheaper substances. How much cheaper can you get than olive oil? I try to buy Spanish or Greek olive oil and if I am feeling in an expansive mood, I will buy California olive oil. As you may have gathered from my posts, I don’t believe that the olive is the “magic bean.” I use it as a flavoring agent on salads and in certain dishes and I like it mixed with balsamic vinegar on fresh bread. The only product I soak in alcohol is fruit and it is not to make a tincture, it is to make alcohol soaked fruit.
Before the feds got their panties all twisted up tight about the war on drugs, which, by the way, was lost in 1975 along with the Viet Nam war, a person could buy tincture of paregoric in the drug store from the pharmacist. It was very useful for teething babies. You moistened the tip of your little finger with the tincture of paregoric and rubbed it on the baby’s gums and, voila! No more crying baby due to teething. We did that for both of our kids and they didn’t turn into raging drug addicts. My parents used it on my two brothers and probably when I was teething too. It was the standard remedy for teething babies. Of course one could also buy Chericol cough syrup with codeine over the counter. Not sure of the spelling of the name as it has been more than 50 years since one has been able to do that.
You have become my very most fav. blog/commenter. Great admirer of your common sense, and research ability. Always appreciate your input on all subjects. Please, continue. I’d love to be able to NOT miss any of your shares. My computer knowledge is extremely limited, so unsure how to accomplish. Thanks for all you do, and to Ask A Prepper for supplying the venue.
Arrgghhh!!!!
Intestinal tract, not “intentional tract”. Does anyone know how to turn predictive off? I don’t mind getting stuck with my own errors, but I hate it when some mindless program creates errors for me.
As I used to tell my employees, “Your job is to make me look good. I can handle looking like a dumb doofus very well all by myself and don’t need any help in that regard. Make me look smart and with it, you’ve got a career.”
Predictive needs to become unemployed.
left coast, hm…I had that same discussion with my employees once…but my wife asked me why I was talking to myself and I lost my focus.
Please put me on your email list to receive your articles.
Thank you,
“How to Prepare Olive ‘Extract’ at Home” The article is confusing. Declaring how to make an Extract & then describing making a Tincture. It then describes the many ailments “Olive leaf extract” is used for. The article ends with “Dosing (oral)” describing how much “olive oil” one needs to intake as medicine.
I understand that the Extract is an Alcohol Tincture but is one to use olive oil or the extract/tincture as medicine?
Supposedly Napoleon gave his soldiers olive leaf extract and that helped give them the stamina to conquer as much as they did. I don’t know about you all, but to me, olive oil tastes good with salad and for cooking. It is not so much helpful to your health, neither is eating olives (the fruit). It is the olive tree leaves that contain the pertinent compound, oleuropein. I have been taking one capsule, 750 mg of which 20% is olive leaf extract, once per day. It helps me feel better and more alive. I am 65 years old with serious health problems (cardiac). If something so cheap and easy to get helps me feel better, I speak up. It’s easily available from Puritan’s Pride Vitamins and also now at Amazon.com, and it’s inexpensive. As I said, I take it daily because it helps me feel better. I don’t know about its being able to cure anything.
Jim A., you lost me at “cure” for arthritis.
Dude, do you think we are that stupid, or just you?
Do you know a “cure” for broken bones too?
It is unfortunate that so many people blindly repeat the misstatements of others that happen to appear on the internet. Ezekiel 47:12, for example, does not relate to olive trees at all, but to fruit trees in general. It could be applied to any number of trees, including those with poisonous leaves.
The exact quote from the KJV of the Bible is this:
“And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine.”
As you can plainly see, it has NOTHING whatsoever to do, specifically, with olive trees in particular, and even overtly implies a variety of fruit bearing trees whose leaves can be used for medicine, rather than any one tree. That is not to say that Olive leaf extract has no usefulness. I happen to use it regularly. But, IT IS NOT endorsed by the Bible.
I have a friend who had taken traditional medicine and a diet plan from Nze Njoku Herbal Home on google to treat Arthritis and High Blood Pressure and for some years now he looks normal. From severe pain always a sick guy Now he looks so healthy and enjoying normal productive life? Praise God
